The first Test match at the Multan Cricket Stadium was played in 2001 between Pakistan and Bangladesh for the Asian Test Championship. Pakistan won the match by an innings and 22 runs. 

The record-making Test match between Pakistan and India which was held at Multan Cricket Stadium in 2004. Virender Sehwag batted a record triple century – 309 runs and steered India into a staggering victory over Pakistan. 

The stadium is also home to the Multan Sultans, a team in the Pakistan Super League led by Shan Masood. In February 2020, it hosted its first PSL match between the Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi .
